Oberoi opens 5-star hotel in Gurgaon

The hotel space in Gurgaon, the business hub in the national capital region, is heating up. Oberoi Hotels on Tuesday inaugurated its first luxury hotel there, right next to the Trident property, under a management contract with Orbit Resorts.

Both, the new Oberoi Gurgaon and the earlier Trident, are built and managed by Oberoi but under an arrangement with Orbit Resorts, which owns the land under it. The new hotel was built for Rs 400 crore and is to cater mainly to business travellers. More >

Marriott Plans India Hotel Expansion

Marriott International Inc. said it plans to introduce its Fairfield Inn brand in India, part of a broader move by midtier U.S. hotel brands to try to tap into the country’s growing middle class.

The hotel operator, based in Bethesda, Md., said Wednesday it will form a joint venture with Samhi Hotels Pvt. Ltd., a hotel-investment fund, to build a Fairfield by Marriott brand in India. Construction is expected to start around year-end. More >

India’s first W hotel will be in mid-town Mumbai

Global hospitality giant Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has made it official: the company will bring the W brand of hotels to India by 2015 with a 350-room property in Mumbai.
